Pyrostyle Flush Glazed Doors
Developer: Land Securities Contractor: Skanska
Architect: Fletcher Priest
Date of completion: January 2015 Contract Value: £1m
In 2012 Stewart Fraser was approached by Fletcher Priest architects, who were aware of the Pyrostyle product and wanted us to develop a ‘flush glazed door’ for their Land Securities’ project at New Ludgate. The new building required a special approach; it has been reintegrated into this important and historical site between Ludgate Circus and St Paul’s, respecting its surroundings and the public as well as protecting the views of the cathedral and the processional route.
We set about taking our certified door for the required fire rating and designed, developed and manufactured the flush glazed alternative. Whilst unexpected challenges delayed the start of the site work it enabled us to present a prototype double door set, the design of which had already been successfully assessed by our Fire Consultants. This prototype was viewed and approved in the factory by Land Securities, Fletcher Priest and contractor Skanska.
The Pyrostyle Flush Glazed doors dramatically feature in the lift lobbies of the two New Ludgate Buildings, perfectly fulfilling the architect’s design vision whilst providing the essential protection to these spaces.
