Bespoke Entrance & Glazed Façade Solution
Project: 133 Houndsditch
Owner: Henderson Global Properties Contractor: Skanska
Architect: Swanke Hayden Connell
Date of completion: 2011
133 Houndsditch is a majestic existing office building. The owner initiated a major refurbishment to include ground floor retail. The brief was to realise the architect’s design for a double height entrance screen to the offices and adjacent retail unit. This unique concept was made up of multiple glass windows all of which were different sizes and our challenge, having sourced a glass specialist from Belgium, was to ensure that each one-off double glazed unit was manufactured and delivered to exact specifications. Another logistics issue was that some existing tenants remained in the building during the reconstruction.
Internally, the building housed an expansive atrium protected by existing glazed aluminium panels. Part of the refurbishment included removing these panels, re-painting them and re-installing them on site. However, an additional set of atrium panelling was commissioned and Stewart Fraser was able to manufacture the new glazed panels and install them with the renovated ones. Our dedication to detail ensured that these new panels were seamlessly integrated with the ‘recycled’ ones to create an impressive feature atrium.
133 Houndsditch is another successful Stewart Fraser project where our design flexibility and quality products resulted in a inspiring installation that exceeded the expectations of our client.
